"The Wishing Tree" series blurs the lines between conceptual and documentary work. This long-term project began in 2015 during my time as an exchange student, initially surrounded by an exciting environment that gradually gave way to feelings of fear and loneliness.
With a clear goal to document symbols and objects that evoked various emotions in me, I sought to express myself in this manner. At first glance, the project may not seem coherent, but it aims to showcase the different facets of emotions experienced while living abroad. Particularly in Hamburg, Germany, the often cloudy, rainy, and cold weather mirrored my emotional state. After spending 1.5 years in Germany, adapting to the environment required time, with the empathy of friends playing a crucial role.
The wishing tree, in particular, symbolizes hope for everyone who experiences loneliness and emptiness caused by living abroad.
